SLAS FIRST Team Grants

FIRST: For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology

FIRST's mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills that inspire innovation and foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.

To support the outstanding work being done by FIRST teams, SLAS is offering a limited number of $500 team grants available on a first come, first served basis.

Applications for these grants must be personally endorsed by a dues-paid SLAS member actively engaged as a coach or mentor in a local FIRST team.

Statement

Please provide a brief statement regarding your FIRST team, how you will utilize the funds and how your team could benefit from this contribution.

 

Letter of Support and Recommendation from an SLAS Member must be sent via email to Mary Geismann, Manager, Member Services to mgeismann@slas.org before your application can be reviewed.

Monetary disbursement — Once approved, the FIRST Team will be asked to sign an SLAS Letter of Intent recognizing sole responsibility for the cash donation and releasing SLAS of liability, taxes, and any other obligations.

Funds must be used to offset necessary costs associated with:

  • Required project supplies
  • Team registrations for FIRST competitions
  • Team travel to and from FIRST competitions

The monetary contribution is not to be considered an obligation of SLAS.

Rules, regulations and guidelines governing this program are subject to change at the discretion of the SLAS Board of Directors in accordance with bylaws, polices, and procedures.

SLAS reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual if his or her fraud or misconduct affects the integrity of this program. Any attempt by an individual to deliberately damage or undermine the legitimate operation of this program is disqualified. Should such an attempt be made, SLAS reserves the right to seek damages from any such individual to the fullest extent of the law.
